Words about: PAINT
Although the landscapes I paint are always actual places, I am acutely aware that the painting is the object that will exist and be seen. Therefore trees may be moved, horizons changed and colours altered. I always attempt to walk that thin line between the representation of the landscape and the physicality of the act of painting.
In every piece I try to achieve a simple, direct response to the landscape - an emotional reaction and a balance between representing a 'place' and the joy and excitement of laying paint on board.
Subjects range from the Yorkshire landscape, the Scottish Highlands & Islands and the urban edgelands of my childhood that I have recently moved back to. Although these locations change one thing unites them all - I know them intimately and love them all.
